According to INE's indicator, 76% of the population considered reported owning a mobile phone in 2024. For an archipelago with dispersed inhabited islands, mobile connectivity has special value: it links households, businesses, public services and communities that depend on fast communication between islands and with the diaspora.
The mobile phone is an entry point for digital services, information, education, transport, transfers, payments and communication with institutions. In Cabo Verde, where internal mobility and external links are central to economic and social life, a broad base of mobile access supports inclusion and the ability to reach more people.
Mobile phone ownership does not measure connectivity quality by itself. A complete reading should consider network coverage, data costs, internet access, digital skills, service quality and differences between islands, urban areas and rural areas.
The expansion of mobile communications has transformed how Cabo Verdeans communicate within the archipelago and with the diaspora. The country's island geography makes connectivity especially important: digital services, mobile networks and internet access help reduce distances, support businesses, facilitate family contact and improve access to information.
