Digital
A key indicator for digital inclusion, information and online services.
According to INE's indicator, 73% of the population considered had access to the internet in 2024. The national 73% indicator in 2024 places Cabo Verde at a high level of digital inclusion in the African context, although international rankings can vary by source, year and definition of use/access. For an archipelagic country, this level of use matters because it reduces distances, facilitates contact between islands and strengthens Cabo Verde's participation in the digital economy.
The internet is a social and economic infrastructure: it supports study, work, commerce, payments, institutional communication, access to information and public services. A high share of recent access creates better conditions for administrative modernization, digital entrepreneurship and permanent links with the Cabo Verdean diaspora.
The 73% value is a good indication of digital inclusion, but it does not by itself measure quality, speed, reliability, data prices or digital skills. A complete reading should consider differences between islands, urban and rural areas, age groups, household income, network coverage and service quality.
Digital connectivity has become strategically important in Cabo Verde because of the country's island geography, dispersed communities and strong international links. The expansion of the internet, mobile phones and digital services helps connect people, businesses and institutions, making communication faster and opening space for new forms of education, work and economic participation.
The internet access indicator should be read as a measure of use/access and not necessarily as ownership of a fixed connection, service quality or daily frequency of use. This page uses the 73% value indicated by INE for 2024 and should be updated when new official series or detailed methodological publications become available.
